Two pilots of the United States Army make the first successful non-stop flight from
mainland United States to Hawai’i in a Fokker C-2-3.  Royal Hawaiian Hotel, “the Pink
Palace of the Pacific,” opens in Waikiki.

1935
Mauna Loa erupts producing a spectacular lava flow.  Pan American Airway's China
Clipper makes the first transpacific airmail flight from San Francisco to Honolulu.  

1941
Attack on Pearl Harbor and other military installations in the islands by Japanese planes.  
Martial law  is declared in Hawai’i.

1944
Martial law is terminated in Hawai’i by presidential order.
